II terremoto della Sicilia del 23 Dicembre 1959 e la « discontinuità 20° »

Abstract
Si riportano i primi risultati di uno studio dedicato adun movimento sismico verificatosi in Sicilia il 23 Dicembre 1959. Vengonodeterminate le coordinate dell'epicentro (14° 39' 21",41 ± 03' 42", 11 long. E;37° 39' 23",43 ± 0,5' 11",59 lat. N geocentrica); la profondità ipocentrale(77,13 km ± 4,93); il tempo origine (09h 29m 04s,0<0*,91). Viene messa inevidenza l'impossibilità di adattare ad un'unica dromocrona i tempi di tragittodelle onde P osservati nell'intervallo 0°,5 — 30°. Vengono dedotte leequazioni di due rami di dromocrona: la prima valida nell'intervallo 0°,5 — 20°la seconda nell'intervallo 20°-30°. Questo fatto viene messo in relazionecon l'ipotesi della « discontinuità 20° ».
