On the influence of the vertical density structure on the dynamics of small basins, with specific application to the Adriatic Sea
Abstract
The importance of a vertical density structure is discussed
for what the liydrologic response and circulation pattern of small
basins are concerned. The existence of a density stratification is parameterized
through a penetration depth of vertical mixing, and different physical
situations are analyzed under a specific set of model assumptions and
in basins of sizes similar to the Adriatic Sea.
A specific application is made for the Winter hydrological situation
in the Adriatic.
