Sismogenia e caratteristiche sismiche del tratto di faglia della « Carbonara » da Monte S. Angelo a San Severo

Abstract

In this paper the seismic features of the Carbonara fault (a great
regional fault that crosses the Gargano headland from East to West) have
been determined applying Brune's theory to experimental data, obtained
by means of local seismic network working on the area for 123 days
(from July 2 to December 2, 1975).
On the basis of obtained results, it is evident that during the observation
time the Carbonara fault has presented a seismic low value in
number and in energy activity with microactivity characteristics (AiL<3).
Furthermore, the stress drop is low during shocks, with an average of few
decimillimeter displacements along the fault, while linear equivalent
sizes of seismic foci are a few hundred meters. The hypocentral depths
derived are lower than twenty Kilometers, wavening between five and
fifteen kilometers.
